The Language of Silence

— Alexei Butirskiy

Seasons and the Breath of Time

Block 3

(silence as a form of ripening) - time moves in cycles, changing the rhythm of the city and the breath of the land. Winter and autumn, the first snow and the ripe harvest, evening in a barn and a deserted alley — all these are different facets of the same process: ripening. There is no place here for haste or abrupt gestures — only gentle agreement that change is inevitable. This silence does not keep still; it works: storing warmth, ripening thoughts, preserving the fruits of labor, and letting go of what must leave.

Where Silence Falls

Oil on Canvas | 16” x 20”

The row of facades seems identical, but each house holds its own story and its own light. A bicycle by the wall is a hint of movement yet to come. Here, silence is respect: the ability to be near without disturbing another’s warmth. The light in a window matters more than words, and presence is stronger than any sound.

Winter’s Breath

Oil on Canvas | 14” x 18”

Snow lies like a new page on which the city writes itself anew. It does not erase the past, but gently covers it, leaving the possibility to begin again. The light of streetlamps slowly dissolves in the cold air, turning into islands of quiet warmth. Each step here is not a rush, but a trace of presence, a sign that life breathes even in deep silence.

Vineyard Surroundings

Watercolor

Rows of grapevines climbing the slopes are lines of earthly poetry. Each is the result of labor, patience, and gratitude. Here, silence is sunlit and filled with the expectation of ripening. It reminds us: joy rarely comes suddenly — more often, it is cultivated.

Fall In The City

Watercolor

Autumn in the city teaches one to make peace with change. Leaves slowly slide down the sidewalks, dividing time into soft, flowing segments in which one can remember, accept, and let go. Autumn does not dramatize; it warms with maturity and quietly escorts summer away. Its silence is the rustle of leaves — a sound one does not wish to interrupt.

Barn, First Snow

Watercolor

The first snow does not hide the land but emphasizes its lines and breaks. The old barn stands without asking for pity — secure in its weathering, knowing how many seasons it has endured. Here, silence is pride that needs no loud words.

Alexei Butirskiy

Alexei Butirskiy Is a classically trained artist who studied at one of the world’s most prestigious art schools — the Russian Academy of Arts. His years of formal, academic training laid the foundation for his mastery, shaping him into a painter with a deep understanding of composition, light, and form.

In his work, Alexei blends the discipline of academic tradition with a philosophical view of the world. His paintings are never just depictions of cities or people — they’re visual reflections on

presence, on the quiet moments hidden inside the rhythm of modern life, on the kind of silence you can feel even in a city that never stops moving.
